Modern readers can miss the impact of a Bible story when they don’t take its physical setting into account. Comprehending how dry and barren a wilderness setting actually is adds a new dimension to your Scripture reading as you can begin to relate to the people in the stories.
In Land without Borders, John Beck combines his passion for God’s Word and his love of geography to bring you deep insights into how the extremes of wilderness factors into those familiar stories. He highlights the easily-overlooked truths of the wilderness—both the harsh, threatening ecosystem in which Bible people sometimes found themselves and the difficult seasons of life in which we often operate. By showing what the wilderness meant to people in Bible times, Beck also provides guidance for our own experience in barren times and places.
Land without Borders contains discussion questions to further enrich your experience. This book makes a great companion to the Land without Borders DVD, which features John Beck exploring the Holy Land’s wilderness and sharing insights with his fellow travelers.
This book is amazing as the author describes the desert areas of the land of Egypt and related it to different stories in the Bible. Eye opening information.
This is an excellent book that will open your eyes to read passages of scripture with new insights, as well as change your perspective on your own wilderness times and those of others. What does God want to teach me during a season of wilderness, and how can I better love others during these times?
If you are into geography, history, and God I recommend this book.
Dr. Beck had a gift for bringing biblical texts into new dimensions as he shares the land of the wilderness to life and informs of stories I never imagined in the wilderness setting. Once he illuminated them for me in this book, it was so very obvious. So very enlightening for me.
